Welcome to the Bruce Morgan Lab

Our group is focused on investigating the complex interplay between cellular metabolism and redox processes.

We develop novel technologies and apply them to uncover how redox metabolism drives cellular regulation.

Our life and news:

Peroxiredoxin Heterooligomerisation

Our work on peroxiredoxin hetero-oligomerisation was just published in Nature Chemical Biology and will feature on the front cover of the April issue.

Next question: What does it mean for peroxiredoxin function in cells?

EMBO Workshop in Spain

The entire team of our PhD students traveled to Sant Feliu de Guixols in Spain to take part in the EMBO workshop "Thiol-based redox switches: From chemistry to physiology and pathology", exchange knowledge with other scientists from all over the world and enjoy some sea and Spanish sun ☀️

New paper published 🎉

We are pleased to have been involved with this exciting story "A trade-off between stress resistance and tolerance underlies the adaptive response to hydrogen peroxide", which has just been published by Gilles Charvon's lab in Cell Systems (Volume 16, Issue 7, July 16, 2025). This work reveals fundamental mechanisms governing how cells balance survival strategies under oxidative stress.

Redox Regulation in Life - conference in Saarbrücken

We hosted the GBM Redox Biology Study Group "Redox regulation in Life" meeting in Saarbrücken. This meeting brought together researchers to discuss redox signaling, metabolic networks, and conserved redox systems. The three-day program featured talks on everything from mitochondrial oxidoreductases to protein persulfidation, plus poster sessions where young scientists got to show off their work.

15.11.2023 - 18.11.2023

Joint SfRBM-SFRRI Conference in Uruguay

Our PhD student Andrey Zhuravlev and master student Anika Diederich made the trip to Punta del Este, Uruguay for the 30th Annual Conference of the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SfRBM), held together with the 21st Biennial Congress of the Society for Free Radical Research International (SFRRI). This four-day gathering was all about cutting-edge research in redox biology, with presentations covering both fundamental science and translational applications. Beyond the science, participants enjoyed Uruguay's beaches, culture, and world-class food scene.

Redox Istanbul 2024 Congress

Lab members traveled to Istanbul, Turkey to take part in the Redox Istanbul 2024 Congress held at the Movenpick Hotel. The conference theme was "From Molecules to Tissues: Redox Biology in Action" and attracted over 300 participants from the whole Europe, USA and Asia. The event covered the latest in redox biology and imaging techniques, with plenary sessions, symposia, and workshops. A highlight was the satellite symposium "Seeing is Believing" at Istanbul Medipol University, which offered hands-on experience with advanced imaging technologies.
